Dress Like a Fanboy: The Costumes of ‘Fanboys’

Every now and then, a delightfully geeky cultural phenomenon nearly makes it to the mainstream. Recently, Live Action Role Play (LARP) has been featured on TV and in films. Now that computers are a contemporary necessity, it’s okay to be a geek–socially acceptable, even (or almost). The nerd-in-parents’-basement-turned-successful-businessman potential has become a reality.Plush Yoda from 80sTees.com

Do you remember what it was like long before the days of geek glorification? Do you remember Star Wars? I’m not talking Jar Jar (AKA the biggest mistake of George Lucas’ career); I’m talking about the original trilogy.

It’s a thing of beauty.

In Fanboys (limited release film),  geek culture and subculture abound. The male protagonists (a group of friends) appear frequently in Star Wars tees. Whether answering Star Wars trivia questions or running around Skywalker Ranch, the Fanboys have likely been outfitted by an awesome site such as 80stees.com.

Fanboys also includes a female star, who primarily dresses in geek chic pirate gear that I have also been known to wear on occasion (what’s the point of working in an office if you can’t be an office pirate?). What could have made a nicer addition to the outfit? A Plush Yoda backpack . But I digress. Yes, boys, she may at some point wear the Princess Leia bikini.

Obviously, there are many Star Wars costumes to choose from…but this movie suggests some popular, practical, easy-to-find options for the die hard fans.

For ladies wanting a sexy Leia costume, but not ready for the slave bikini, check out this sexy version of the Princess Leia robe!

I will have to look for this movie. Yeah the original trilogy is just classic and the new trilogy just can not compare.
