Sookie Stackhouse Waitress Costume
Here’s a simple costume for all Sookie wannabes:
- Merlotte’s shirt
- Short black shorts
- Green apron
- Waitress notepad
- Natural makeup
- White sneakers
- Louisiana accent, excellent manners, Southern charm
- Vampire bite prosthetic (optional)
Sookie Stackhouse is the popular female protagonist originally featured in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. Sookie is also portrayed by Anna Paquin on HBO’s hit series True Blood. Sookie’s first described and shown when she’s at work at Merlotte’s. The waitresses at Merlotte’s wear white sneakers, short black shorts, and tightly-fitted white tees with the Merlotte’s logo. This outfit is very consistent through both the show and the book.
When at work, Sookie usually has her hair in a ponytail. Her makeup is rather summery and natural looking, and Harris constantly describes Sookie as having a tan–she loves to spend time in the sun (Bill can smell it on her skin) and she goes to a tanning booth in a video store in Bon Temps during the winter months.
One Sookie costumer alludes to wearing Nikes (I think the TV Sookie does), though in the series she most certainly wears Reeboks. Sookie is also notably shown and described as having blond hair and blue eyes. She knows she’s pretty and carries herself that way, too–so be sure to add some confidence. This costumer also chose to add vampire bite marks, implying she might have taken a romantic tumble with the handsome Bill Compton before starting her shift at Merlotte’s. Who could blame her?
Actually, in the series she wears Nikes.
