How to Make a Vampire Costume!
Today I came across this great video (embedded below) on YouTube. I like this video for a few reasons:
Just about anyone can do a vampire costume on a low budget, and this video does not stress buying expensive items for the costume.
The video points out (no fangy pun intended) that you should spend what money you have on fangs ($15-$50). As a LARPer who has played a vampire before, I can tell you that more expensive and more comfortable fangs look more realistic and feel less distracting. Look for fangs that you can mold based on your teeth, and make sure you leave enough time to let them set before use. If you want to wear fangs, also think about what type of vampire you are portraying. Different vampires actually have different teeth! True Blood vampires, for example, do not have canine fangs, but more pronounced fangs toward the front of the mouth; Twilight vampires have more traditional fangs. Buffy: the Vampire Slayer vampires get some forehead ridges when they ‘change,’ which would possibly require more makeup.
Since vampires can live in any era, consider wearing any type of costume you already have as a base. Seriously. It’s not like there theoretically would not have been pirate vampires, hippie vampires, etc.–though Victorian and renaissance vampires seem to be the most popular nowadays!
Please see my other post regarding vampire costumes to learn where to get fangs!
Great video!
P.S. Buzzed you!
